Questions

Frequently asked questions

How much does sod cost in Mesa?

It depends on the size of the yard, the type of grass, how much ground prep is needed and whether your sprinklers need work first. Every yard is different, so we come out, measure and give you a free estimate with no obligation.

How long before I can walk on new sod?

Plan on keeping kids, pets and heavy traffic off it for about two weeks while the roots take hold. Gently tug a corner; once it resists, it's rooting in. Our new sod care guide walks through the first month.

When should I plant winter rye?

Once nighttime temperatures stay cool, usually mid-October into November in the East Valley. Too early and the Bermuda crowds it out. See when to overseed winter rye for the full rundown.

Do I have to overseed every winter?

No. Bermuda goes dormant and turns brown in winter, then greens back up in spring on its own. Overseeding with rye is for people who want a green lawn through the cooler months.

How often should I water my lawn in the summer?

Deeply and every few days, early in the morning, rather than a little every day. The right schedule depends on your soil, sun and sprinklers. Our summer watering guide shows how to check if your lawn is getting enough.

Why does my lawn have brown spots when the rest is green?

Usually it's a sprinkler problem, like a broken or clogged head, a leak or poor coverage, not too little water overall. We test each zone, find the problem and fix it.

Sod or seed: which should I get?

Sod gives you a finished lawn right away. Bermuda seed costs less and works well with good irrigation and some patience. We'll talk through which fits your yard and timeline.

What is core aeration and does my lawn need it?

Aeration pulls small plugs of soil out of the lawn so water, air and nutrients reach the roots. It helps compacted lawns, like ones with heavy foot traffic or water that runs off instead of soaking in.

Can you get rid of the weeds in my yard?

Yes. Weed control and prevention is part of our maintenance service, in lawns, rock and planting beds. Keeping weeds out is easier with regular visits than one big fix.

Do you work in my area, and are estimates really free?

We serve Mesa, Gilbert, Chandler and Tempe. Estimates are always free: we walk the yard with you and give you a clear quote with no obligation.
